Literacy Interventions

I am so excited to be working with your child again for Literacy instruction.  We will be starting the school year working on consonant digraphs sh, ch wh, th and ck which will focus on helping your child to improve their phonemic awareness skills and decoding for faster fluency when they read.   Additionally, every Monday they will be bringing home their fluency folder after they have completed a “cold read”  with me where they read a passage they are unfamiliar with and try to improve their fluency score by Phonics Friday!  They should practice the fluency passage with an adult for one minute at least 3 times during the week at home and then I will time them on Friday for a  “hot read” on  “Fun Phonics Friday”.  Your child will work with me to set fluency goals to improve their reading as we move through the school year.
In addition, they will be having some work at home on the skills we are working on in class.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at jbelmonte@d64.org.
Kindly,

Mrs. Jenni Belmonte
